MECHANICS, RULES & REGULATIONS
Welcome, cosplayers! Get ready to showcase your talents in APEX CON 2024! Here are the guidelines to ensure a smooth and enjoyable competition for everyone.
Eligibility and Participation:
- Performance: This competition is open to all participants. This could be in any form: Main cosplayer/s and shadows (or assistants) e.g. Naruto vs. generic ninjas.
- Costume & Theme: The theme for APEX CON is “Sci-Fi and Gaming”. Example of franchises or series that are Sci-Fi or have major Sci-Fi elements to it are:
– Starwars
– Boku No Hero
– Transformers
– Kamen Rider (Depends on the series)
– Some Marvel or DC Characters
– Resident Evil
– Arcane or League of Legends characters
Please note that the franchises mentioned above are just examples and the contest is not limited to only those characters. Cosplays that don’t align with the theme will automatically be DISQUALIFIED. Organizers will also check and confirm this with contestants. - Agreement and Compliance: By registering, you agree to follow all contest rules and regulations. Any violation may result in disqualification.
Performance Details:
- Time Limit: Your skit (a short performance acting out your character) should be between 2 and 4 minutes long. This includes setting up and removing any props or equipment used on stage.
- Audio/Video Accompaniment: You are encouraged to submit a YouTube link (set to unlisted, not private) for your preferred background music. If Youtube is not viable, please send us a Google Drive link in which we can have access. Default music and video will be used if not provided.
- Character Reference: When registering, please submit a photo of the character you are cosplaying for reference.
Performance Content:
- Languages: English, Tagalog, Chinese, or Japanese are the only permitted languages during your skit. Please maintain a clean and appropriate performance, avoiding suggestive or provocative content.
- Other Contest Entries: You are allowed to participate in other contests provided that they are not the same or is a part of your skit.
- Performance Variety: Your performance can include acting, singing, dancing, a combination of these, or even a skill demonstration. However, it should remain relevant to the character you portray and not negatively impact your score. Dangerous stunts are strictly prohibited. The organizers are not liable for any injuries sustained during the performance.
- Assistants or side characters are allowed. You may do the skit as a group as well only the contestant will be scored.
Costume Regulations:
- Costume Restrictions: Revealing costumes, those associated with hentai or ecchi themes, or any provocative or scandalous attire are not permitted. Wearing real uniforms from government or private organizations is also prohibited.
- Original Characters: Only established characters from existing games, movies, or books are allowed for this competition.
Props and Safety:
- Solo Performance: Staff and organizers will not be able to assist you during your performance.
- Prop Restrictions: Props requiring extensive cleanup, involving fire, or presenting any danger or potential damage are strictly forbidden. All props, including weapons, need to be pre-approved by the organizers for safety reasons.
General Regulations:
- Champion’s Handicap: Cosplays and performances that have already won the title of CHAMPION from any event held in Negros Occidental within 2024 will not be allowed to join the competition.
- Organizer’s Authority: The organizers have the final say on the safety and appropriateness of props, equipment, and performances. They may reject entries for valid reasons.
- Schedule Compliance: Please follow the contest schedule and avoid leaving the event premises to prevent disruptions. This may result in point deductions or disqualification.
- Scoring System: The judging will be based on a point system, rewarding various aspects of your performance.
- Confidentiality: All participant information and skit details will be kept confidential by the organizers.
- Judges’ Decisions: The judges’ decisions are final and cannot be contested.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING
Costume Accuracy (30 points)
Authenticity is the cornerstone of Costume Accuracy, a principle revered by Pro Cosplayers worldwide. With a keen eye for detail, cosplayers faithfully recreate characters’ designs, ensuring every aspect resonates with precision and authenticity. Through this dedication, they pay tribute to the craftsmanship that gives life to cherished characters.
Character Portrayal (35 points)
Step into the shoes of your character and breathe life into their persona! We’ll be evaluating how well you embody the spirit, mannerisms, and personality of your chosen character. Whether you’re a valiant hero, a cunning villain, or a lovable sidekick, let your performance resonate with the essence of your character.
Performance (30 points)
This is your moment to shine on stage! Your performance will be a key factor in our judging criteria, so unleash your creativity and captivate the audience with your flair, charisma, and stage presence. Whether it’s a dramatic monologue, an action-packed fight sequence, or a whimsical dance routine, make every moment count!
Audience Impact (5 points)
As you command the stage, remember that you are more than just a performer – you are a beacon of inspiration for all who behold your artistry. Let your presence electrify the audience, filling their hearts with joy and admiration. With every cheer, every applause, reaffirms your hard work and effort.
